If you visit Villa Maria’s headquarters, near Auckland International Airport, you’ll notice the vines – gewürztraminer, chardonnay, pinot noir (for sparkling wine) and verdelho – that flank the approach road. But you may not realise that this site at Ihumatao, which covers 20ha, is one of the country’s most-honoured single vineyards.
