Two winemakers have gone out on their own, producing some outstanding results.

After high-flying careers as the chief winemakers for two of the biggest and best producers in Hawke’s Bay, Tony Prichard (formerly of Church Road) and Rod McDonald (ex Vidal), are now each producing wine under their own labels. Experience counts: their wines are full of personality and worth discovering. At De la Terre (“Of the Earth”), on the Napier-Taihape Road, Prichard built by hand a richly atmospheric, mud-brick winery.
