Hawke’s Bay’s 2014 reds reflect their second top harvest in a row.

After a notably warm, early-ripening season, last year winegrowers in Hawke’s Bay reported their second top harvest in a row. Trinity Hill praised 2014 as “an extremely strong vintage, particularly for red wine, with syrah being the absolute highlight”. Comparing 2014 with the much-lauded previous vintage, Te Mata predicted that 2013 would produce “longer-lived wines, with qualities valued by wine critics, while the forward, fruit-orientated 2014s will sit better with the public”. The region’s 2014 reds are now arriving on the shelves, bursting with flavour and drink-young appeal.
