The 2013 La Collina Syrah sets a new standard in memorable vintages.

Syrah – the same grape as Australian shiraz – is currently the most fashionable red wine from Hawke’s Bay, Auckland and Northland. Trinity Hill Homage and Craggy Range Le Sol rank among our greatest examples of the classic Rhône Valley variety, but my favourite is La Collina Syrah from Bilancia. Launched in 1997, and one of Hawke’s Bay’s rarest labels, Bilancia is owned by Lorraine Leheny and her partner, Warren Gibson, who is better known as the chief winemaker at Trinity Hill.
